Escape to Jersey, Channel Islands

For the last couple of years i’ve been lucky enough to fly further afield to explore new countries. I’ve backpacked Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. I’ve been pinning (join me on Pinterest here) beaches in Australia, markets in Japan and temples in India. 
Admittedly, I’ve been completely neglecting and overlooking the beauty we have here in our own country and in Europe.
So my mission from here on out, is to explore closer to home, and inspire you guys to do the same!

Today’s post comes after the Jersey tourist board got in touch about a new campaign they are running… Escape to Jersey.
I get a lot of press releases sent to me, but this one captivated me instantly.

Where on earth IS Jersey?
Jersey, despite being actually closer to France (22km) than it is to England, is still considered part of the British Isles. 
The Island of Jersey lies 100miles South of mainland Britain and is 9miles by 5 miles in size. 
You can see it’s position on the map below, marked with the red tab.

How do you get to Jersey?
From the UK: 
– By sea from Portsmouth, Weymouth and Poole via Condor Ferries.
– By Plane the flight is about an hour
Flights regularly from airports all over the UK.

From outside of the UK you can fly into Jersey Airport.
Where do you stay in Jersey?
– Camping, glamping and yurt ‘ing’ are all popular and available options in Jersey. View here

What is there to do in Jersey?

Jersey proudly accommodates for all types of holiday. From short breaks, romantic weekends, active experiences, foodie getaways, and family summer holidays.

Adventure activities:
– Durrell Wildlife Park
– Coasteering! One for us adrenalin seekers – SOUNDS AMAZING! Read more here
– Scubadiving
– Surfing (St.Ouen’s Bay – West coast)
– Wake boarding, paddle boarding, swimming and sailing
– Blo’Karting (onland wind sailing)
– 45 mile network of narrow country roads and lanes with priority given to walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Virtually all have incredible views over the Atlantic.
Exploring and wandering:
– Victorian markets (Mon-Sat) in St.Helier
(Banjo Brasserie is apparently an amazing restaurant in St. Helier)
– Beresford Market (fish market) 
– Mont Orgueil Castle (Open Daily 10-6pm)
– St. Helier is the heart of shopping culture in Jersey

Beaches:
Jersey has 48 miles of breathtaking coastline. See all the 20 beaches Jersey has to offer here.

– St. Brelades Beach (named in top 5 UK beaches) 
Jerseys busiest resort beach. Restaurant called Oyster Box boasts panoramic views over the bay.
– Rozel Bay 
A small fishing port in the North East of the island (The Hungry Man is meant to be a great pub to go to here).
– St. Ouens Bay
The surfers paradise.
– Plemont Beach
Jerseys most beautiful beach, a sandy cove on the North Coast.

– Longueville Manor
