Looking after dehydrated skin on your travels with Simples Water Boost Collection
Ever since I had acne 3 years ago (see here), my skin has become increasingly precious to me and I will happily spend the extra pennies on the right products.
As a travel blogger, I’m on the road more often than I am not and my skin is continuously being exposed to a number of contrasting environments. I’m well aware that if I am not careful, factors like UV rays, city smoke and airplane air con will start to take their toll. In fact they already are.
Because of the different climates in particular that my skin withstands, I’m always on the lookout for new products that are going to protect my skin and give it the tlc it needs to stay young and fresh for as long as possible.
Needless to say that when Simple got in touch  a couple of months ago and presented their new range of Water Boost products to me, I was intrigued as to what this new collection could offer.
Introducing Simple’s hydrating booster…
What instantly caught my attention in the Water Boost press release was this:
A lot of people don’t realise that dry skin and dehydrated skin are very different. Using moisturiser combats dry skin but not dehydration.
I’m pretty sure I don’t speak for just myself when I say that note is thought provoking. It got me thinking how well I actually know my skin. Sure when your skin feels dry you add moisturiser, but what about dehydration?
How do you know when your skin is dehydrated?
Since reading the above statement I’ve been reading many articles about the differences between dry and dehydrated skin and the conclusion I noted was:
- Dry skin appears dry and can be flaky / rough
- Dehydrated skin is harder to visually notice but can be identified through dullness, tightness, sensitivity and the
appearance of fine lines
Ultimately, dehydrated skin can cause premature ageing and though you may not have dry skin, your skin could still be dehydrated.
I also found, factors that significantly contribute to dehydration can include UV rays, hot showers, hard water, air conditioning and the wrong skin products.
When thinking about my lifestyle I identified a few places straight away that I may see benefit from using the product:
- On planes when I freshen up in the bathrooms and need the extra hydration to combat the recycled air
and air conditioning - When I’ve spent the day the ocean or in the mountains and my skin has been exposed to UV rays and heat for extended periods of time
- When camping at festivals and perhaps I’m not drinking enough water / getting enough shade
For the last few months I have put my Simple Hydrating Booster to the test and have quite Simple-y fallen head over heels. From it’s first trip to Mundaka, Spain right through to my travels this week through Croatia – it has become a solid staple in my routine.
Admittedly I’m usually hesitant to bring those extra products away with me (aside from your standard face wash and moisturiser) because of airline weight allowances and space within baggage but packing this pocket sized beauty required no hesitation.
My hydrating booster tucked right into my travel wallet beside my passport, earphones and cards claiming minimal room.
Something I’d particularly like to highlight with this product is how feather light and non-claustrophobic application is.
The formula is a lightweight gel with a texture that I can only describe as similar to that of anti-bacterial sanitiser or a serum. It doesn’t have that heavy cream feeling and immediately spreads lightly across your complexion.
You only need a tiny amount and so though this product may seem miniature – you shouldn’t underestimate its
longevity.
During my week in Mundaka it was pretty hot weather wise, yet application on the beach between surf wasn’t irritating in the slightest, despite the usual sticky feeling I usually associate with adding product in this circumstance. Again between ocean dips in Croatia, the hydrating booster was the perfect complement to freshen up my face and hydrate my skin before continuing on to apply UV protection.
Note: The booster doesn’t contain SPF so you still need UV protection.
Tip: If you don’t want to add another beauty step into your regime you can pop a couple of drops in with your moisturiser or sun cream. I use it in the morning mixed with my moisturiser and then have it to hand to top up my hydration by itself during the day if i need it.
Though I may not have previously been one to pick this product up off of the shelf, I am so glad I had the chance to learn
more about my skin through this collaboration. I hope my experience will encourage you to get your hands on a product that I now can’t imagine my skincare routine without!
I will most definitely be keeping my Simple hydrating booster as a companion with me on future journeys and adventures.
