10 Mini Adventures To Go On In Auckland, New Zealand
Set among a collection of volcanic islands, this ‘City Of Sails’ or Auckland as most will recognise it, certainly appears to have it all…
A thriving city to climb through, beaches within a half an hour drive, the sunnier climate of the two main islands, outstanding wineries within close proximity, world class food and hiking trails to hand and an international airport ready to connect you easily with the rest of the world.
Auckland is a popular starting point for those arriving to New Zealand, and with a million once-in-a-lifetime adventures in easy reach of the city, people are usually straight off to experience them.
But wait a second!
Auckland has so much adventure of it’s own and i know, particularly within the backpacking community, it gets overlooked.
So here are 10 Mini Adventures To Go On In And Around Auckland, New Zealand:
-
Watch The Sun Set Over The City At Bastion’s Point
My two kiwi treasures Logan {@logan_dodds} and Jamie {@jamiemcshark} took me here and it was definitely my Auckland highlight. Head over to Mission Bay for Dinner and then just round the corner at Bastion’s Point, you can park up and watch the sun set over the city. We were naughty and climbed to the rood of this garage to get an even better perspective.
-
Catch The Ferry Over To Waiheke And Vineyard Hop
The Number 1 thing i was gutted to have not gotten around to doing, and only managed to view by plane. Most Kiwi residents claim this to be their favourite spot. An island filled with incredible canoeing, views and vineyards. Definitely one to head over to with the girls… or lads!
-
Jump Off Of The Sky Tower {or just have a drink up there}
Head over to my Instagram @molliebylett to see the video of me jumping off the Tower. Search #MollieInZealand to find it!
-
Enjoy Lunch On The North Shore Beaches And Take A Walk Along The Sea Front
-
Hop on A Scenic Flight Over The Huaraki Gulf
Book here with Auckland Sea Planes
-
Kayak Over To, And Climb Rangitoto Volcano
I was booked onto this but had to rearrange 3 times and cancel due to the weather. If the winds are too strong it doesn’t go ahead. Unfortunately i never got the chance to do it in the end but wish i had!
-
Go For Dinner In The Viaduct Overlooking The Harbour
We dined at Frida Cocina Mexicana in the Viaduct and the food was incredible {as were the margaritas}. When you’re finished head around the corner opposite the ferry building to Movenpick for some ice-cream!
-
Take a Roadtrip Up To The Bay Of Islands
Paihia is just a 2.5 hour drive from Auckland and from there you can jump on a cruise around the Bay of Islands in search of whales and dolphins. If you book onto the right cruise, it allows time for you to jump in the water with the dolphins. I booked my cruise here. Trip included sailing through ‘The Hole in The Rock’ and relaxing for an hour on the gorgeous beaches of Urupukapuka Island.
We stayed in the MOST MAGICAL accommodation at Magic Cottages, River Takou. See my experience here {YOU’RE SERIOUSLY MISSING OUT IF YOU DON’T CLICK THAT LINK}
-
Walk Through Auckland Harbour, Get Lunch At The Fish Market And a Drink Over Looking The Water At Observatory
-
Head down to the West Surf Beaches
Another spot I was gutted to miss. If you’re looking to escape the city, head down to Raglan to immerse yourself in the surf vibes.
What are YOUR favourite things to do in Auckland?
I’d love to know!
Thank YOU guys for reading <3
