Planning Your Trip to Ubud
Getting to Ubud
The closest international airport is Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) in Denpasar, with direct flights from major hubs across Asia, Australia, and beyond.
From the airport, Ubud is approximately a 1.5 to 2-hour drive depending on traffic. Pre-booking a private transfer is a nice way to arrive, especially if travelling to Bali is a long haul for you. Most accommodations will offer a pick-up service when you book, so I highly recommend doing that; that way your driver will be waiting at arrivals with a sign (and to help you with your luggage).
Alternatively, download Grab (Southeast Asia’s ride-share app), and when you arrive, you can order a car (this is Bali’s Uber equivalent).
The best time to visit Ubud, Bali
Bali has two main seasons. The dry season (April–October) is ideal for sunny days, low humidity, and dreamy, comfortable conditions for trails and temple visits. The wet season (November–March) brings daily downpours, but the landscape turns even greener, and crowds thin out considerably. Shoulder months like April, May, and September offer the best of both worlds.
Getting around Ubud
These days, the best places (quieter spots) to stay are located just outside of the centre, and so to get into Ubud and around, you’ll probably want a scooter.
You can either:
- hire a scooter (that fits 2 people) for around 60,000 IDR a day (about £2.50).
- Download Grab and book a scooter every time you need a ride (around 15-20,000 IDR a trip, no matter where you go in Ubud)
Most people get around on the back of Grab bikes, as there is availability in abundance, and it’s very quick and cheap to get around. You’re hardly ever waiting more than 2 minutes for a bike to arrive. Bikes over cars here because of the traffic; bikes can weave through the traffic, and you’ll find travel time significantly reduced.

The Best Brunch Spots in Ubud
Alchemy
You may have heard of Alchemy if you’ve visited Canggu or Uluwatu as there are branches of the same cafe there also. And if this is your first introduction… Alchemy is, without question, one of the most iconic places to eat in Ubud and it has been for years. This legendary raw food café pioneered the superfood brunch movement in Bali and still does it better than almost anyone else. The menu is entirely plant-based (don’t let that put you, meat eaters, off – it’s DELICIOUS) and raw, built around nutrient-dense ingredients that are as good for you as they taste.
The ‘build your own bowl’ bar is a favourite for many — you choose your base and pile on toppings from an extraordinary selection of seeds, powders, fresh fruit, and house-made granolas. Beyond the bowls, the menu covers all the raw wraps, salads, fermented drinks, avo on toast, extrafancy beans on toast and decadent raw desserts that will make you question everything you thought you knew about healthy and vegan eating. A non-negotiable on any list of the best brunch spots in Ubud.

Zest Ubud
Zest is another one of the OG cafes in Ubud, and it’s still as amazing as I remember 7 years ago. Here they serve plant-based dishes with some of the most creative, nourishing brunch dishes in Bali… oh and with an elevated view over the jungle. See below.
Think colourful raw bowls, house-made elixirs, seriously good coffee and all the juices, smoothies and teas you can think of. I can vouch for the ceremonial cacao here… and i had the Taro fishcakes this time which were so yummy! The freshness in every sauce and dish here is second to none.
The relaxed, open-air space (with plenty of seating) has a wonderful community energy and is perfect if you’re in the mood for a slow morning with a gentle buzz around you. Bring your book, your journal or your laptop and enjoy a morning in one of the most nourishing spots in Ubud.
Tip: Zest hosts a daily tea ceremony at 9–10:30 AM in their ‘Dragon Temple’. Book your ticket here and arrive early to secure a spot.

Yellow Flower Café
If you’ve spent any time scrolling Ubud content on Instagram, you’ve almost certainly seen Yellow Flower. This gorgeous, plant-filled café is one of the most visually stunning places to eat in Ubud. Immerse yourself in the all-trailing greenery, warm wood tones, and natural light. It hits on all levels, and you’re guaranteed to get that Instagram story-worthy shot whilst also satisfying your taste buds.
From fluffy stacks and loaded toasts to nourishing bowls and house-baked goods, Yellow Flower delivers consistently across the board. Absolutely one of the best places for coffee and brunch in Ubud – I’ve heard the pancakes are BOMB.
KAFE
KAFE has been a cornerstone of Ubud’s dining scene for well over a decade, and its staying power says it all. I actually went back in 2019, and it was a favourite then too!
This community staple strikes the perfect balance. The menu is healthy without being preachy, and the portions are generous. They have amazing meat options here, which is a nice relief from all the plant-based cafes if you’re craving some red meat or chicken. I can personally recommend the jerk chicken, pictured below.
But of course they have all your plant-based favourites too. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious – a welcome contrast to some of the more scene-y cafés in Ubud. You don’t need to dress up, but of course if you want to – do. KAFE is great for breakfast lunch and dinner and some evenings i even just went for one of their hot teas.
Make sure you order the lemongrass, ginger, pandan leaf and honey tea! Pictured below.

Chontea Matcha
Okay, so a good coffee is not too hard to find in Ubud, but matcha – well, if you’re anything like me and you’ve been to the home of matcha just outside of Kyoto, Japan, it’s a little more challenging to find the good stuff.
Luckily for you, though, I’ve done the research and found the best matcha in Ubud, if not the whole of Bali – Chontea.
This dedicated matcha café (always a good sign) is one of the most unique cafes in Ubud — every item on the menu, from lattes and smoothies to cakes and waffles, features matcha as the hero ingredient. The result is a menu that feels genuinely distinct from anything else in town. The matcha is high-grade, and there are many finishes to choose from, depending on your matcha taste profile! Served up with normal milk, oat or soy, the matcha comes in the most gorgeous ceramics and is poured with love and intention. You can honestly taste it.
The space itself is serene and beautifully designed, tucked off the road in amongst the lush greens – see picture below. This is the perfect place for your first matcha experience; you’ll feel the authentic Japanese traditions coming through, and they even insist you take off your shoes and put on the slippers when you enter – just like being in Japan. It made me smile so much!
Chontea is an essential stop on any tour of Ubud’s best brunch spots for anyone with a matcha obsession.

Yoga Barn
Here we are again with another iconic brunch spot in Ubud. The Yoga Barn is and has been for a very long time the anchor of Ubud’s wellness scene… a jungle sanctuary with many studios and temples offering multiple daily classes from Vinyasa and Yin to Kundalini and Ecstatic Dance.
During your time in Ubud, I’d highly recommend booking a yoga class or workshop here, then staying at the on-site cafe for brunch afterwards. You could easily spend the whole day here.

Mudra
Mudra sits at the intersection of wellness and gastronomy. This beautiful café is one of the more serene places to eat in Ubud, with a calming atmosphere that makes it feel like an extension of a spa or retreat space. It’s the kind of spot you find yourself gravitating towards on slower mornings when you want nourishment without noise.
It’s also a great spot for WIFI and doing a little bit of work (you digital nomads – i see you).
The menu leans into functional foods and healing ingredients with all the adaptogenic elixirs, gut-friendly ferments, and beautifully balanced brunch plates you can dream off. The presentation is elegant without being fussy, and the service is warm. The shakshuka was amazing!
If you’re on a wellness trip or simply looking to eat with intention, Mudra earns its place among the best brunch spots in Ubud.

Sayuri Healing Foods
Everything on the menu here at Sayuri is raw, plant-based, and made with an almost meditative level of care and craft. Sayuri herself is a raw food pioneer, and the passion behind this place is evident in every single dish.
The menu reads like a love letter to whole, living foods. Think raw lasagne, sprouted seed crackers, cashew-based cheeses, fermented drinks, and desserts so flavourful you’ll wonder how they are unprocessed. See the menu here.
I never actually got here on my trip, but I heard SO many people recommend it. Particularly the dessert fridge. Apparently that’s worth visiting for alone.
They also host lots of amazing kirtans, workshops and live music so check out their events here and tie it in with one.

Ubud’s café scene is honestly a world-class collection of creative, health-forward, and genuinely delicious spaces that reflect the soul of this remarkable town. Whether you’re working your way through every item on the Alchemy smoothie bowl bar or discovering your new matcha obsession (hehe, proud) at Chontea, the best brunch spots in Ubud are worth planning your mornings around.
