Puerto Pollença, Mallorca

Port de Pollenca’s horseshoe shaped bay shelters the waters from the ocean winds, leaving the gorgeous blue waters calm and collected – perfect for taking a dip.

Like many Mallorcan towns, Puerto Pollenca was originally a fishing village and, still now, features a large marina filled with boats, though only a handful now are used for traditional fishing.

Instead, you can find boats available for private renting (super fun adventure idea!), tour boats ready to cruise you around the locals bays, boats to take you on scuba diving adventures, boats to lead you parasailing and of course, some cheek pedalos.

Without the time to dig too deep into the Port and its offerings, during our stay we found it the perfect place to come in the afternoon for Sangria and Tapas, or in the evening for cocktails and scenic dining.

Both times, we of course embraced the abundance of stunning waterfront restaurants Port de pollenca showcases.

Every Wednesday from 8am – 1pm there is a market in the Port Square, next to the church of Virgen del Carmen. Here you’ll find 200+ stalls filled with Spanish souvenirs, clothing, fruit, vegetables and like any other Spanish market – a wide selection of leather goods.

We headed down to this very market for the last hour and picked up some fresh juices for 2 euros each as we wandered around.

I have to say, once you’ve been to one market (we had already been to the Sunday market in Old Town Alcudia), you’ve kinda seen it all, as they all display a very similar variety of goods.Nonetheless it’s a lovely excuse to go for a stroll and embrace the local culture, each town characteristically varying.

I have to mention the drive from Old Town Alcudia through to Port de Pollenca. Purely because it is one of my favourite drives I have ever done.
There’s nothing much to it apart from driving a few miles right alongside the gorgeous shoreline.

But when the sun was out and the skies were clear, there was something about the drive gave me an instant sense of calm. I guess I love open spaces and to be near water both of which are at the forefront of this drive.

Another place I have to mention here in Port de Pollenca is this little beach front cafe, of which I can’t actually remember the name.

I can, however, remember where it is…

If you are in Port de Pollenca facing the water, turn right and walk right along the waterfront. Continue walking away from the port until you reach a few isolated beach bars on a gorgeous sand beach.

This, is one of those bars.

We came to Mallorca in May at the very beginning of the summer season so it was very quiet and aside from a couple of locals we had the beach bar (and beach) to ourselves. I can imagine, from the quality of the sand and the view, that this spot gets pretty popular in the summer, but even so it’s definitely worth a visit for a beverage with a view.

(They also serve food and cocktails)

All in all, Port de Pollenca is a beautiful spot that caters very much for tourists needs but hasn’t yet been destroyed and still remains with a lot of character and beauty.

Should you choose to stay here there are a number of sea view apartments, resorts and villas on offer and it is only a 50-60 minute drive from the main airport Palma.
