Where is Dunsborough? And Why Should You Visit?
Nestled in the Margaret River region of Western Australia (south of Perth), Dunsborough is a coastal town known for its combination of amazing beaches, popular surf breaks, lush forests, and overall relaxed atmosphere.
Located about three hours south of Perth by car, this pocket of Western Australia hosts a dreamy combination of outdoor adventure and laid-back luxury. Whether you’re coming to catch some waves, witness stunning coastal rock formations, or lounge between some exceptional wineries, Dunsborough is a destination that promises unforgettable adventure.
If you value nature, good food, and coastal scenery, i have no doubt that you’ll fall in love with this stunning part of Western Australia.
The Best Way to Get There & Where to Stay
The easiest way to reach Dunsborough is by car from Perth, which takes approximately three hours.
Alternatively, you could choose to take a flight down to Busselton Margaret River Airport and drive about 30 minutes to reach the town itself. A car is highly recommended to explore the area at your own pace so consider renting a car if you do decide to fly in.
For accommodations and places to stay there are many options…
We rented a campervan from Ratpack Travel which is the budget-friendly option and you can pull up at Tasman Holiday Park right on the front at Yallingup with a powered site for $90. Book here.
In my opinion, travelling around Australia with a campervan or motorhome is the ultimate way to see it. You can pull up to some once-in-a-lifetime views for dinner, morning coffee, and post-surf hangouts. You just get so much more flexibility. See the images below.
You also have the option of booking on Airbnb which is a particularly affordable option if there are a few of you sharing. There’s Empire Retreat & Spa for a more luxurious accommodation and Meelup Farmhouse Stay for a rustic, charming option.

Recently renovated and opened to the public, owners Mark and Liz (who also own Meelup Farmhouse) opened this beachfront restaurant to capture the slow, relaxed pace of life found in Mediterranean cultures.
