Should you do a SkyDive? Lake Tahoe, California

Updated On 22nd July, 2017

Just two weeks ago I headed out to North California with the GoPro Family – the best adventure squad of them all. We stayed in Squaw Valley a gorgeous (out of season) ski town, which we used as a base for adventures centered around the launch of GoPro’s two BRAND NEW CAMERAS:

The HERO 5 Black + The Hero 5 Session

THIS IS BIG NEWS.

THESE ARE THE BEST CAMERAS BY FAR.

I am actually thinking to do an additional blog post to guide you guys on which GoPro will be best for you to get for your travels. If that’s something of interest to you, let me know in the comments below and I will do so 🙂

In and around meeting the CEO of GoPro himself, Nick Woodman, we got to put the cameras to the test and true to GoPro style – we did so in a nothing-short-of-epic way. Watch first hand, from my HERO 5 Black, my first ever Sky Dive as I plummeted down over Lake Tahoe…

{I had literally just opened the camera up before i jumped and so hadn’t worked out how to turn Video Stabilisation on – one of the incredible new features. Oops! Forgive me.}

What does it feel like to fall from the sky?

There’s something about having a birds eye view over a city, a country, or the ocean. Be it hiking to the top of a mountain, sipping from your favourite tipple in a rooftop bar or gazing out of a plane window 11,000 above ground –  life is suddenly put into perspective and for me, life becomes a lot clearer.

I can’t go too long without that feeling.

Obviously, a SkyDive is a bit more of an extreme way to experience perspective, but it’s a freaking insane way to experience it – for those of you like minded adrenalin monkeys.

For the moments in which you are freefalling {before the parachute comes out} you are forced into the peace of the present where nothing but awe compells your mind.

It’s the most incredible feeling and the closest i’ve ever felt to the freedom of flying.

No it doesn’t hurt and yes, if you don’t like heights… it’s pretty high!

But just like I say about travelling, whether doing a SkyDive makes you realise you’re never doing it again or whether completing it makes you feel empowered – it will change something inside of you. You will be grateful for that change, and you won’t regret it.

Are you more likely to sit with your grand children in years to come and regret not doing it?

I would say so.

SkyDiving is an experience which for most, will need to be a spontaneous one, but just don’t rule it out 🙂 Remember…

Life is what happens at the end of  your comfort zone

Tips for your SkyDive:

– Make sure your goggles are on SUPER tight. I thought mine were, but they flew off as we jumped and the incredible speed of air passing by my face and eyes was slightly uncomfortable.

– Wear a T-shirt / long sleeve top. The pressure of the harness as we fell pinched my skin just beneath my shoulders because my skin was exposed.

– Take a GoPro to film it!
