The Ultimate Home Inspiration: An apartment tour

There are so many reasons why I love coming home from my travels. Most of them these days have to do with the peace and the rest that I find when i’m in my home itself.

As you know i’ve spent the last 3-4 years hardly touching my feet on the ground and i’ve definitely felt the effects physically and emotionally. Last year, at 23, I moved out of my family home for the first time and rented a flat in East London with a friend. This flat was set to be somewhere I could keep my belongings safe, somewhere with easy access to airports, central London meetings and somewhere just up in the hustle of the city as I grew my career to the next level.

During the time I spent in my East London flat though, I was hardly there. My heart was still very much in the clouds and despite recognising I needed a little more stability, I was still very restless.

I then moved out before Christmas, took all my belongings back home and I got on a plane to Australia for a few months. I moved a lot, I stayed with friends, I adventured a lot and I burn out bigger than ever when I got home. I got home to my life in boxes and suitcases and it wasn’t sitting right this time.

So in March this year, I finally felt ready to put my feet down a little more firmly. I needed the stability of a home more than ever and to have that I acknowledged I needed to spend some time building one.

Luckily at the very same time I was looking, my best friend Lilly was looking too.

If I was to make my new South West apartment feel like home, I decided that I needed to invest my time and money making it a place I’d want to come back to. If I’m being blatantly honest, it needed to offer me something that the southern beaches of California or the Northern beaches of Sydney couldn’t because I was struggling to find enough reasons to stay in the city when my heart was and is being pulled so strongly away.

It didn’t take us long to find our new home.

We found somewhere in a quiet residential area in South West London near the Thames.

We found somewhere close enough to access the hustle but far enough away you could walk to the shop and feel like you were miles away.

We found somewhere with a bath for those long hot soaks you crave after being on the road.

We found somewhere with a beautiful kitchen so that we could get fresh ingredients in and cook up our favourite dishes to nourish our bodies.

We found somewhere with a beautiful living area that had space for relaxing, eating, entertaining friends and for working out / doing yoga.

I felt like I finally had a home. Honestly now, when I’m on route back from an adventure be it camping an hour away or from a roadtrip the other side of the world – I cannot wait to get home.

I continued on to fill our home with all of the things that make me happy. New candles, bedsheets, incense sticks and more. It’s in the little things for me and i’ve definitely created a space that I love by filling it with them.
