Review: Karma Kandara, the 5-star beach resort in Bali
If you happen to be an adventurer seeking the saltier vibes when travelling, you may have heard word on the street about Uluwatu in Bali. Home to one of the most consistent surf breaks in the world, Uluwatu pulls in surfers and salty ocean fiends from all over.
Nearby, still on the southern shores of the island, just a little further around the peninsula sits a stretch of cliffs often referred to as Billionaire’s Row. The name, as you can imagine, refers to the luxurious escapes that are on offer here, including Karma Kandara – located on Ungasan Hill overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Just recently I was invited down for a two night stay to indulge in and photograph the Karma Kandara experience. In this blog post I’m going to share this experience with you.
If you’re looking to put your feet up and relax into one of life’s more elegant resorts, Karma Kandara Beach Resort could be the next adventure that you book.
*I was invited to experience this resort as a guest of Karma Kandara. All opinions, photos and text in this post are my own and honestly reflect my two-night experience here at Karma Kandara.
Review: Karma Kandara, the 5-star beach resort in Bali
Where is Karma Kandara?
Karma Kandara is located around 11km from the island’s international airport, Ngurah Rai, making for a smooth and quick transfer once you touch down in Bali. Karma Kandara sits south of the airport on the Bukit Peninsula (that little area that pops out on the bottom of the island), an area known for it’s dry and stony landscape. Most of the coast here is cliffside, just like Karma Kandara.
Don’t worry though, a visit to the beach is made convenient with Karma Kandaras’ very own cliff-side cable car. Of course, if you fancy the climb, stairs are available too.
Having only explored the west coast of the Bukit Peninsula so far (Uluwatu), I was so excited to arrive, experience and shoot this pocket of Bali…

Top tip: Bukit Peninsula showcases incredible sunsets. Consider Sunset Point or Single Fin for an alternative evening sunset adventure during your stay at Karma Kandara.
The villas at Karma Kandara
The Karma Kandara resort is all about coming together with your family and friends for a cosmopolitan, beachfront villa experience. Villas here come with private pools, decks with loungers and amenities that make the villas a fully fledged part of your day. You know, not just somewhere you sleep. Each villa differs with views from garden views to ocean views and some of the top spec villas come with infinity pools overlooking the ocean.
There are 2, 3 and 4 bedroom villas dotted between the lushious greens planted here and you’ll find yourself walking through a maze of gorgeous stone walkways to arrive at Karma’s facilities.
Time it right with the sun and you’ll be wandering through magical walkways with speckled light flickering through the palm leaves.
There’s no doubt about it, the villas here are beautiful. Each are finished with a very high spec and are maintained to an impeccable standard. Each villa has a beautiful Balinese concierge assigned to it so that, during your stay, should you need anything – it’s attended to efficiently.
Gorgeous lotions and potions are provided, large freestanding baths too and local tropical fruit is replenished in the fruit bowl each day, free of charge. Oh and for fellow robe lovers out there, there are robes awaiting you in the wardrobes. The little things hey.
The mini bar is filled with yummy delights but as with most things at this resort, they come with an additional charge. Just a heads up.
