About Oceania
Australia and New Zealand are popular for good reason. From backpacking East Coast Australia to exploring the Australian outback, to enjoying road trips on NZ’s North Island and completing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, Oceania has buckets full of adventures waiting for you.
Winter in the Northern hemisphere means summer in the Southern hemisphere, making Oceania the perfect place to escape the UK winter! Summer in Australia and New Zealand is December-February, so it’s a great time to go for hot temperatures, large crowds, party vibes and mountain challenges such as the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. If you’re looking for a quieter, cooler and cheaper time of year to visit, try spring (September to November) or autumn (March to May). You can still enjoy East Coast Australia without the crowds and with less risk of sunburn! There are exceptions to the ‘visit when it’s warm’ rule, though, for example, the Australian outback and Uluru is best in winter (June to September) as it’s even cooler!
Backpacking the East Coast of Australia was just one of my favourite trips. From off road exploring on Fraser Island (the world’s largest sand island), road tripping the Great Ocean Road and sailing the Whitsundays to barefoot freedom in Byron Bay, sunset cocktails in Manly, NYE in Sydney and learning about the aboriginals in Uluru. Australia holds some of my favourite memories in the world.
Then there’s New Zealand. Shout out to Kiwi Experience but, hire a camper if you can! You’ve outdoor activity and mountains in abundance. There’s bungy jumping/skiing/hiking in Queenstown, the insane Tongariro Alpine Crossing, the glow worm caves in Waitomo, the seafood in the Northland and surfing in Raglan to name just a few highlights.
